People often ask me how I remember all the commands in Windows 7 that can start programs in by just clicking the Start ORB in Windows 7, clicking Run and then entering a short command, which is more often than not, starting the program by Navigating the Start > Programs Menu and clicking the programs Icons.

Well, the truth is that I (mostly) don’t – there’s just too many of them to remember!

Fact is, I cheat. This document contains a file that I kept on my website to refer to when I’d forgotten a command – it was hidden because it was for my use only, but due to the amount of times people have asked me, I’m making it available to all of you via this Blog. Enjoy!

A Windows 7 run command is, very simply, the executable for a particular program. In other words, a run command is the name of the actual file that starts an application.

Knowing the run command for a particular program in Windows 7 can be helpful if Windows isn’t working properly but you do have access to a command line interface or if you’d just like to access a particular program more quickly.

Run Commands in Windows 7

Note: If a listed “Run Command” doesn’t work for you – simply add a .msc to the end of it.
As an Example, if you type “Services” in the run command and it doesn’t bring up the Services
console, just type “Services.msc” and it should then work for you as designed.
